How to Avoid Buisness Communication Barriers

There are many communication barriers that can arise in a business setting, however we will review 5 of them:
  1. Structure
  2. Delivery
  3. Mixed Messages
  4. Audience
  5. Environment
Structure is an important part of communication in business because it allows the audience to follow and understand what you are trying to say. If you have a bunch of information scattered it may be hard for someone to extract the meaning behind what you are saying. To avoid this develop a set structure that is simple and can be easily understood by any audience.

Having a poor delivery can drastically affect the message that you are trying to deliver. Especially in a business presentation having a poor delivery can determine what your audience will take away from it. In order to accomplish a strong delivery it's necessary to separate yourself from the message, even if you are nervous. It's best to focus on the outcome and impact that the point/message will make.

Mixed messages can cause many problems in a business setting, and most often resulting in complaints, work completed incorrectly, and arguments. Be as clear as possible when trying to convey your point and make sure the individual hearing this message understands what you are saying completely.

Audience is a huge factor especially in a business presentation. Knowing your audience allows you to communicate the information in a right way so those receiving the information can understand. For instance you wouldn't talk about cars to children the same way you would to a room full of executives. Make sure you are aware of who your audience is and how you are communicating the topics with them.

Being in a distracting environment when trying to communicate your message can inhibit the audience's ability to understand what you are saying. There are many distractions that could hinder your presentation such as loud noises, other people talking, mobile phones, interruptions and many more. Some factors can not be avoided however, factors that involve the audience can. Make a point to mention that cell phones must be turned off, questions will be handled at the end or side conversations are disruptive and it's best not to talk in order to get your message across.
